Sedation Dentistry

Nervous About Visiting the Dentist?

If you feel a little anxiety about coming in for a dental appointment, don’t worry, you’re far from alone! Nearly 75% of the US population feels the exact same way, and we treat nervous patients every day. We completely empathize with them, which is why our warm and friendly team does everything they can to help them feel at ease. For those who need a little more help, we can offer something called sedation dentistry.

With these techniques, Dr. Thomas Redfern and our team can help take the edge off of your nerves and give you a comfortable dental experience. Just let us know if you think sedation would be right for you. We’ll never judge, we’re just here to help!

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Woman relaxed in dental chair receiving nitrous oxide sedationNitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” has been used for a century to help slightly nervous dental patients. To use it, all you’ll need to do is breathe in an odorless gas through a small nasal mask. Within a few minutes, a warming, calming sensation will come over you. After your procedure is finished, the mask will be removed, and within minutes, you’ll feel completely normal with no lasting numbness or drowsiness.

Oral Conscious Sedation

For this, Dr. Redfern will prescribe you medication to take about an hour before your procedure so that by the time you reach the treatment chair, you’ll be completely physically and mentally relaxed. You’ll still be awake throughout the entire appointment, but most patients report having little to no memory of it afterward (which is perfect for some!).

If you’ve been avoiding going to the dentist for years because of the fear of pain, then sedation dentistry can help. With these gentle and safe techniques, we can help take the anxiety out of your dental care. To learn more about sedation dentistry and how it can help, please contact our office today.
